Byron - Intu, Derby.

After receiving an invitation to Byron in Derby to check out their new lunch menu, me and mum took a trip over together to see what it was all about.
The new lunch menu is available mid-week (Mon-Thurs until 5pm) and at the moment, is exclusive to this restaurant and the one in Leicester.

We headed to the intu centre for our 1pm reservation and were seated in the corner next to the front window - my ideal table as I love to people watch!

Our waitress bought us over the set lunch menu along with the regular one too as both run alongside eachother. The majority of dishes available are burgers which if you didn't know already, Byron specialise in. There are however, plenty of alternatives too.

I was really impressed by this menu. It's short but sweet and has an option for everyone with a range of toppings and fillings which is something you can sometimes struggle with when it comes to a set menu.
The menu states that the portion size is a little smaller than the usual "smaller bites for busy people" which is ideal if you're just making a quick pit stop for fuel.

We ordered drinks, sparkling water for mum and a diet coke for me and were asked if we'd like any nibbles before ordering. After a quick discussion, we decided on some 'nachos for two' which are served with a dollop of sour cream, guacamole and tomato salsa, all of which are home-made.

The portion size was huge! Our faces dropped when we were presented with the bowl but they did look delicious. They were delicious. The tortilla chips remained crispy, there was plenty of melted cheese and the dips were full of flavour. I preferred the sour cream whilst mum has come away obsessed with the tomato salsa.

For main course, I went for the 'Byron Burger' from the lunch menu along with the Courgette Fries (you may have seen these on my Healthy Eating blog post) and mum went for one from the normal menu, The 'Smoky' along with regular fries.

The first thing that sprung to mind was how incredibly tasty both burgers looked. You choose how you'd like your meat cooked to which we both went for well done and they come served in a squishy bun (their words, not mine).

I was very impressed, especially with the burger sauce. It kind of tastes like Big Mac sauce which is amazing and my courgette fries were to die for. They're lightly fried in a buttermilk batter and turn out so crispy. I urge you to go and try these if you can.
The patties are flavourful and juicy and yes, the bun is squishy.

Likewise, mum was impressed with her burger too stating it's the best one she's had for a while. It's advertised as smoky and that's what's delivered from the combination of smoked chilli, BBQ sauce and bacon. The crispy onions topped it off a treat and turned out to be a great all-rounder. 

I pointed out during our meal that when you're in a shopping centre restaurant, there's always high demand for a table which can make you as a diner feel rushed and uncomfortable. During our time at Byron, that certainly wasn't the case at all. 
We were left to our own devices with an occasional visit from our waitress checking all was ok and whether we wanted a top up on drinks. This is just how I like it.

After a quick contemplation with desserts, we both decided against them after ending up so full from the previous two courses. The Oreo Cheesecake did catch my eye but I stayed sensible. 

After our meal, it was time to head out back Intu the shopping centre (see what I did there?) and complete some retail therapy.

Overall, I'd definitely return to Byron whether it's this one in Derby or one of their other locations. At Derby though, the staff were so easy to get along with and more than happy to have a chat and ensure you have the best time possible. The interior was nicely done and the tables were reasonably spaced apart. You're not made to feel squashed up to the next table which again is common in a shopping centre restaurant. 
A great place for a meal whilst doing your shopping or even at night as they stay open late and parking is only £2 after 6pm.
I really liked how everything is made fresh daily, cooked fresh to order and a takeaway option is available.
